Pucker Up For Lemonade Day

This free program teaches kids valuable business skills by running their own lemonade stand

With Summer right around the corner, registration for Lemonade Day has opened! Lemonade Day is a free experiential learning program that teaches kids to start, own, and operate their own businesses.

Don’t worry; kids aren’t being handed the keys to a Fortune 500 company. Instead, Lemonade Day teaches kids from kindergarten to high school how to run a lemonade stand. Go figure!

After registering, kids will attend Lemon University. Here, an instructor provides students with a backpack, a Lemonade Day workbook, and access to the My Lemonade Day app.

More importantly, Lemon University teaches students several valuable business skills to run a lemonade stand successfully. This includes choosing a business partner, advertising, creating a budget, and much more.

Students will also have the chance to partner with local businesses and “rent” a business location for their lemonade stand. It should be noted that not every town will be participating in Lemonade Day.

Official Lemonade Day Towns include Hinton, Jasper, Drayton Valley, Edson, and Grande Cache, among others. A complete list of participating towns can be found here.

Participants get to keep all the profits they make to sweeten the lemonade bowl. However, Lemonade Day encourages kids to “spend some, save some, and share some.”

In 2022, participants donated more than $12,000 of their profits to local charities. Let’s see if our kids can blow that number out of the park this year!

Bearing all this in mind, Lemonade Day knows you can’t run a successful business without a bit of competition!

Lemonade Day participants can win prizes for various awards, including Area Best Entrepreneur, Area Best Tasting Lemonade, Area Best Lemonade Stand, and Regional Entrepreneur of the Year.

Ethan and Edward Chapman won the Area Best Tasting Lemonade award in 2022. The Chapman Brother’s Lemonade Stand offered traditional lemonade and strawberry lemonade.

“Lemonade Day 2022 was a little different, but in a great way, because my brother and I, along with our parents, decided to invest in a popcorn machine,” commented the Chapman brothers.

Participants that submit their final business results are entered into a draw to win a new bike. Now that’s a sweet deal! If I weren’t going through a midlife crisis, I would say sign me up!
