The air is cooling down, and the days are getting shorter. The smell of composting leaves fills the alleys. The fields and farmers’ markets are full of pumpkins and squash. With the darkness and cold, something paranormal hangs in the air. Spirits move again through the night, floating above the fresh-cut fields for somewhere to rest. Some of them may find a resting place in a house near you. 

If you dare visit the dead, here is a list of eleven of Alberta’s best and freakiest haunted houses. 

Calgary

Haunted Calgary at Heritage Park

Oct 24-27 | starting at $21.95/person

Heritage Park gives you two events: Ghoul’s Night Out, where you can choose the level of scare you want to get, and Hell Night, a zombie apocalypse game for kids aged 12 and above.

Field of Screams

Oct 11-26 | $30/guest

Wander through a 20-acre horror field and test your nerves in six haunted houses at this unforgettable event. Inside the haunted houses, you’ll live through your funeral, you’ll cross aliens, and aliens will test their beauty products on you.

Chestermere

Dr Giggles House of Pain

Oct 11-Nov 2 | $30/person

In their 17th year of freaking people out, the haunted house guarantees you that “you will be permanently scarred.” The event will take you into a movie scene, and you’ll have to let us know if you make it out alive…. 

Dr Giggles House of Pain requests that you bring food bank donations to the event.

Red Deer

Lockdown Escape Rooms 

Oct 24-Nov 2 | $40/group of 2 (minimum two people)

Work with a partner or a group of friends to escape this haunted house before the fear of what’s following you takes over! Fifty percent of the proceeds of this event will go to the Red Deer Food Bank. 

Zed Haunted House

Oct 17-31 | $20/person

This haunted house has several theme nights, including Black Out Night, a total-darkness experience and Midnight Madness, a night for adults only. All proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club of Red Deer.

Edmonton

Beck Horror Museum

This curious museum, located at the back of Beck Antiques in West Edmonton Mall, is sure to fulfill all your Halloween nightmares.

Edmonton Ghost Tours

On these ghost tours, history meets the haunted. You’ll take a deep dive into Edmonton’s past, from learning about Spanish Flu victims to discovering its notorious historical murderers. 

Deadmonton House
