Okotoks Comedian Brings The Laughs Home

Juan Forno is returning to his hometown with his Dos Cervezas Tour

Juan Forno is a comedian based in Portland, Oregon, in the United States. However, Forno’s roots are deeply Canadian. He was born in Calgary and grew up in Okotoks.

The comedian is returning home as part of his North American tour dubbed the Dos Cervezas Tour. Dos cervezas translates to “two beers,” which isn’t unusual for Forno, who always orders an IPA to take on stage with him.

“I’m doing Okotoks, Calgary, Brooks and Lethbridge as Canadian dates, and we’re going to create a limited series for Amazon Prime that I’m self-producing. It is being filmed, and it’s going to end up on a major streaming platform,” Forno told Okotoks Online.

Forno graduated from Foothills Composite Highschool in 2010. Believe it or not, he was never much of a class clown. Forno was better at sports than he was at comedy!

Growing up, Forno’s parents would poke fun at him and ask, “Don’t you have to be funny to be a comedian?” After graduating, Forno took on odd jobs around Calgary.

All the while, Forno’s passion for comedy was steadily growing. After two years passed, he finally took the leap of faith and pursued comedy as a career.

“I was drinking in my mom’s basement and playing video games with my friends, and we were thinking we were funny, so I thought why not try comedy…I gave it a shot and fell in love with it immediately,” Forno told the Western Wheel.

Forno’s style of comedy started as dark and edgy, but it wasn’t paying the bills. People weren’t interested, and he wasn’t getting many laughs.

Since then, Forno’s comedy has evolved into what he describes as “honest and authentic without fear of touching on tough subjects and interacting with the audience,” in an interview with the Calgary Guardian.

It seems to be working for him! Forno’s debut special titled The Snow Mexican premiered earlier this year on Amazon Prime. The show deals with moving from Canada to the United States, society’s problems, being a bi-racial baby, and his crazy family.

Forno is now working on a limited series for Amazon Prime that he is self-producing. In the meantime, he is looking forward to returning to Okotoks.

“Okotoks is a great little town. I love my time there,e and I always love coming back. We go tobogganing every Christmas down the Dr. Morris Gibson Hill. Those are some fond, fond memories,” commented Forno.

If you want to see Forno, he will be in Calgary on April 19, 2023, as part of his Dos Cervezas Tour.
