Some of the greatest country artists are from Canada. Many of these legendary artists, including Brett Kissel, Paul Brandt, and Corb Lund, were born and raised in Alberta.
Our province also dominates the modern country music scene with up-and-coming artists like Sykamore, Alee, Hailey Benedict, and Drew Gregory.
You can expect to see some of these talented musicians at the 14th Annual Country Music Alberta Awards on March 2 at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino in Calgary!
Gregory in particular is on fire. He has been nominated for Horizon Male Artist of the Year, Horizon Single of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Video of the Year, and the Fans Choice award.
Many of Gregory’s nominations are for his song “This Side of the Dirt,” which has just shy of 180,000 listens on Spotify.

In a day and age where negative headlines, climate change, and tragedies seem to be the norm, Gregory’s song reminds us to live in the moment while we are still on “this side of the dirt.”
While many resonate with Gregory’s song, they also appreciate his music video, which features him playing the guitar outside an old barn in an open field. It doesn’t get more country than that.
Even if you don’t like country music, you will feel the urge to pretend like you do and dance. The spotlight isn’t just on Gregory, though.
Hailey Benedict has been nominated for Single of the Year for her song “Things My Momma Says.” Her fellow nominees include Brett Kissel, High Valley, Mackenzie Porter, and Tenille Townes.
Similar to Gregory’s song “This Side of the Dirt,” “Things My Momma Says” is a reminder, this time to show your mom some love.
While you are showing your mom some love, why not show your favourite Alberta country artists some support, too?
Network, Learn, and Celebrate

In addition to vocal coaching, attendees can enjoy a presentation on digital marketing, a coffee and connect session, and a kickoff party in the evening.
The real fun happens on March 2. Shortly after the annual general meeting at 10:00 AM, the event’s songwriters’ showcase will start at 11:30 AM, where songwriters will share their music and the stories behind their songs.
The event picks up steam at 5:00 PM with red carpet cocktail hour, followed by a gala dinner at 6:00 PM.
The award show starts at 7:30 PM so try not to drink too many cocktails before then! The ceremony will be hosted by Alberta golden girl and Miss Universe Canada 2024, Ashley Callingbull.
You can drink as much as you like at the after-party starting at 10:30 PM. Just try not to get kicked out after dancing too hard to “This Side of the Dirt.”
