If you’re anything like us, you’re always up for an adventure—especially here in the Alberta Rockies.

Whether it’s hiking, paddling, or biking, we’re there! And, of course, if you’re from Canmore, Cochrane or Calgary, you’re likely to have a dog with you because we have one of the highest rates of dog ownership in Canada. And who wants to leave behind their furry adventure buddy?

And after a day of conquering the trails, there’s nothing better than kicking back with an ice-cold craft beer, except maybe sipping that refreshing brew on a sunny patio with your pup happily lounging by your side.

Here’s a fun fact: Alberta is home to 152 craft breweries, and over 70 welcome dogs on their patios! That’s a whole lot of options for you and your furry drinking companion. Honestly, we’re starting to think our next summer mission should be visiting every single dog-friendly brewery in the province. You know, for “research” purposes. Someone’s gotta do it!

But for now, we’re sticking closer to home. Below, we’ve rounded up eight awesome craft breweries in the Alberta Rockies where you can enjoy a pint with your pup.

Cheers to good beers and wagging tails! 🍻🐶

Sheepdog Brewing – Canmore

If the name didn’t give it away, a quick peek at the “Dog Info” section on their website will—Sheepdog Brewing is one of the most dog-friendly spots in Canmore. This family- and pet-friendly brewery is just minutes from downtown and offers plenty of options for you and your pup. Sunny day? Grab a spot on the patio. Rainy weekend? No problem—dogs are welcome inside on the main floor. No matter the weather, you and your four-legged friend are covered. Cheers to that!

Canmore Brewing – Canmore

Canmore Brewing Company is another dog-friendly beer patio must-stop. This family-friendly, dog-loving brewery has a killer patio with jaw-dropping mountain views—and thanks to outdoor heaters, it stays toasty even when there’s a chill in the air.

Live music? Check. An epic lineup of craft brews? Double-check. Just a short stroll from Main Street, it’s the perfect spot to kick back after a day of adventuring. Reviewers rave about the “great atmosphere and friendly service”—which totally matches our experiences there.

Banff Ave. Brewing Company – Banff

Banff Ave Brewing Co. has been serving up good times since 2010, following in the footsteps of its big sister, Jasper Brewing Co. If you love great beer, mountain views, and a little people-watching on Banff Ave., this is your spot. Their street-level patio is not only a prime hangout but also totally dog-friendly—so bring your pup along. On chilly days, you can cozy up by the fireplace while sipping on one of their 12 in-house brews.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is the perfect place to kick back, relax, and soak in the Banff vibes!

Three Bears Brewery – Banff

Are you looking for a patio hangout in Banff that doesn’t shut down when the snow starts flying? Three Bears has you covered—literally. Their heated patio stays open all year, so you and your furry sidekick can stay warm by the fire tables while you both enjoy a treat (yes, they even have a dog menu).

There are plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options for humans, plus a stargazing retractable roof for those clear mountain nights. And if you didn’t bring your pup along, don’t worry—their beer garden has a towering 25-foot pine tree and some adorable forest critters to keep you company. If you want to spice up your week, Monday Funday is the move—think live music, awesome specials, and all-around good vibes!

Address: 205 Bear St, Banff

Jasper Brewing Co – Jasper

Jasper Brewing Co, the older sister of Banff Ave Brewing, opened its doors in 2005 and proudly holds the title of Canada’s first National Park Brewery. Being all about community, they’ve always welcomed pups on their patio—because what’s better than enjoying a cold one with your four-legged bestie?

Unfortunately, in 2024, a devastating fire hit Jasper, and while the brewery itself didn’t go up in flames, it suffered smoke and water damage when the neighbouring building burned and had to be torn down. But don’t worry—Jasper Brewing Co. isn’t down for the count! They’re already making plans for a comeback, ready to pour pints and welcome thirsty travellers (and their dogs) once again. Keep an eye on their socials for the latest updates!

Folding Mountain Brewery – Yellowhead County

Just a quick 10-minute drive west of Hinton, right on the edge of Jasper National Park, you’ll find Folding Mountain Brewing Taproom and Kitchen—the perfect sunny spot to sip craft beer with a side of epic Rocky Mountain views.

Hit the Folding Mountain Trail for an adventure, then stroll straight from the trail onto the patio to reward yourself with a fresh, cold brew. Or, if you prefer, skip the hike and head straight for the beer—no judgment!

Don’t miss their annual “Dog Days of Summer” fundraiser for the Hinton & District SPCA—because beer is even better when it’s for a good cause. From May to late September, Juniper Pizza Pies sets up shop in the beer garden, serving up delicious, takeout-style pies that pair perfectly with your pint.

Hiking, beer, dogs, and pizza—what more could you ask for?

Old Man River Brewing – Lundreck

At Oldman River Brewing, you’re more likely to find the brew crew out on the trails or paddling down the river than hanging out in the taproom. The staff and regulars? They’re the kind of folks who live for fresh air—hikers, skiers, river rats, hunters, anglers, and, of course, dog lovers. Because, really, is there a better way to wrap up an epic day outside than kicking back on a sunny patio with a cold, refreshing brew?

But it’s not just about the great outdoors—this place also has a serious love for music. Think live bands, open mics, jam sessions, and even legendary karaoke nights. So grab your pup, dust off that guitar, and bring your thirst for adventure (and maybe a beer or two).

The Pass Beer Company – Blairmore

If you’re road-tripping through the Crowsnest Pass, make a pit stop at Pass Beer Company before you roll into BC. It’s your final chance to grab some top-notch Alberta craft beer! Just 15 minutes from the border, this spot isn’t just about great brews. They’ve got wood-fired pizzas straight from outdoor ovens on the menu, and their massive patio was nominated for the best patio in the Crowsnest in 2024. And with jaw-dropping Rocky Mountain views, you might just decide to stay in Alberta. Best part? They’re totally kid- and dog-friendly, so bring the whole gang and enjoy the wide open spaces, sun and Rockies views.
